Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen says that his club team, Tottenham Hotspur, cannot be losing any more points against the teams from the bottom of the table. Losing points against such teams was a major factor behind Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions League.
The team finished in a disappointing fifth spot once again, but there was a lot of positives to take from this season. Spurs were only six points away from Manchester United, who were ultimately awarded to the final fourth spot. Mauricio Pochettino’s team could have easily taken this place had it not been for disappointing results like the losses against Newcastle and Aston Villa at home.
Midfielder Christian Eriksen was a major factor in Spurs keeping up with the rest of the top four chasing teams for much of the campaign, even though Swedish betting firms all consistently said that Tittenham’s challenge would die off as the season progressed.
Even though a lot of teams were after him for his signature, the Denmark midfielder chose to join Tottenham since he would get more first-team opportunities at White Hart Lane. It has proven to be the right decision since Eriksen has been going from strength to strength since moving to the club. He is now at a point when another good campaign would see him subjected to interest from the likes of Real Madrid or Chelsea.
“Of course we ended close and we have been close throughout the season. We know there is a step up. We did well against the bigger teams last season, hopefully we will continue that. But also against the teams where we don’t have a good day we need to stabilize that and get some points in those games as well because that is really important at the end. First of all we run a bit more. We need to be fitter and we need to play our game, but we play a more pressing game,” said Eriksen.
