YOUNG CALTEX SOCCEROO GETS FIRST GOAL

Caltex Socceroo rising youngster Chris Ikonomidis has gotten his first goal for AGF Aarhus, ensuring the team was victorious in the Danish Cup clash.

AGF defeated their opponents Holbaek 3-1 as Ikonomidis got the match-winning goal. We take a look at other Socceroos players.

The game was a good one for the Aussie pair in Denmark as Mustafa Amini impressed for the visitors. Amini was prominent in the build up to Ikonomidis effort. Ange Postecoglou would be happy with the goal from the young player, particularly after naming him in his 30-man squad for the FIFA World Cup affair against Thailand next month.

Ikonomidis was named 24 hours earlier but seems to have proved that he merited the call in the first place.

On the other hand, Brad Jones maintained yet another clean sheet. The Feyenoord shot-stopper has earned a lot of commendation for his recent efforts, and was crucial as the team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Excelsior in the KNVB Beker – Dutch Cup.

James Jeggo did not have a good night as he couldn’t help Sturm Graz avoid defeat in Austria. The team was bundled out of the Cup after a penalty shootout against St Polten. They scores remained 1-1 after extra time, so it had to be decided on penalty kicks. Jeggo scored his own kick as he took the second but his teammates could not convert theirs. The league leaders in the Austrian Bundesliga lost out 4-3 to exit the Cup.

Brendan Rodgers left out Tom Rogic as Celtic had a comfortable 4-0 victory over Ross County in the Scottish Premier League. The former Liverpool manager was likely looking ahead as they have difficult clashes against Aberdeen and Bayern Munich. Hendenheim’s Ben Halloran was not able to save his team as well as they lost 1-0 to Wolfsburg. Also, Caltex Socceroo left back Aziz Behich helped his side Bursaspor defeat Yomraspor 3-0 in the Turkish Cup.
