Christian Eriksen’s agent has said that it is always a compliment for his client to be associated with some of Europe’s elite. The Denmark international, who is currently in the ranks of Tottenham Hotspur, has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid of late, with the latter said to be planning a major squad overhaul for the summer.
Speaking to Danish newspaper BT, Martin Schoots said: “I don’t comment on rumours much. But when clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United are mentioned, it’s always a compliment. Since Christian was 14-years-old, big clubs have shown interest. The first were Chelsea, AC Milan, and Barcelona, since then there has been no transfer window without any offer or interest. It is not all clubs known by the press. ‘Christian is not a guy who wants to talk too much. He talks with his feet.”
Eriksen has evolved into an efficient player for club and country over the past couple of years, and the Dane is likely to be influential towards Spurs’ quest for a first trophy since 2008, where they beat Chelsea in extra-time. The north London side are still alive across two competitions in the FA Cup and Champions League, but the former is likely to be their best bet for a trophy, considering the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City have bowed out before the quarter-final stage.
Spurs have built up a team with plenty of promising young talents from across the world, but it may not be long before they pursue their futures elsewhere, considering the right wage structure at the club. There has been plenty of talk of loyalty towards their employers, but the lure of a big-money contract at an elite club of Manchester United or Real Madrid’s calibre could be hard to turn down for any players associated with football.
