Denmark international Andreas Christensen is a big doubt for Chelsea ahead of the London Derby clash with Arsenal later this week after the player picked up an hamstring problem in the win at Premier League leaders Manchester City. He was injured in the first half of the league encounter with the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium.
Sterling gave City the lead and he won the penalty which gave the hosts the chance to double their lead in the first half only for Sergio Aguero to fluff his lines. His weak penalty was easily saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and that miss came back to haunt the club’s all-time leading goalscorer at the end of the game.
Chelsea fought back to win the game in the second half through the goals from Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso. Alonso scored in stoppage time to win the game for the Blues and deny Manchester City the chance to wrap up the title. A win would have secured the title for the Citizens.
Denmark player Christensen was replaced by Frenchman Kurt Zouma when he went off injured in the first half and he faces race against time to be fit for the Arsenal game at home on Wednesday night. A win at home to the Gunners will take Chelsea closer to securing Champions League football ahead of the new season which starts in three months time.
Chelsea leapfrogged Leicester City into third place on the league table and four points from the next two games including the Arsenal match will seal Champions League football.
