The Denmark national team manager Morten Olsen has confirmed that the defender Patrick Mtigila has played his last international match of his career. The 31-year-old defender was not selected as the starter by the manager Morten Olsen in the match against Milan. As opposed to the experienced Patrick Mtigila, the manager opted for Simon Poulsen. It has brought out the worst in the 31-year-old Patrick Mtigila after he refused to warm up in the match following the injury to Simon during the warmup. The Denmark national team manager Olsen said that he immediately asked the FC Nordsjaelland defender to leave the dressing room.
He has also confirmed that he will not be picked for the national team again as long as he is the manager. He has also despised the attitude of the player by saying that he had not seen any such incident in the 40 year long management career he has enjoyed. Denmark then went on to lose the match 3-1 after goals from Mario Balotelli, Ricardo Montolivo, and Daniele de Rossi helped them to comfortably beat the Danes. As a result of this victory, Italy now top the group with 10 points on the board compared to the two points of Denmark.
“I have been in football for 40 years but I’ve never experienced anything like this. He let his team mates down. I asked Patrick Mtigila to warm up but he was so disappointed by our decision (to start Poulsen) that he said he couldn’t play an international match. I immediately asked him to leave the dressing room and he has played his last international,” said the Denmark coach Morten Olsen. Denmark have not won a single match in the last five encounters, while they can only boast of draws against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
